OSEA – Ocean|Sun|Earth|Atmosphere

“Safe cosmetics are a consumer’s right and our earth’s rightful due.” Jenefer Palmer, OSEA

I am proud to introduce 100% vegan OSEA Skincare! I’ve been researching this company for the past six months and chose them for several reasons:

They use glass bottles which are endlessly recyclable and beautiful. They have affordable Travel Sets for first time buyers. The company is local: Malibu. And my #1 favorite reason? Organic, hand-harvested, Patagonian Gigartina algae!

Benefits of Seaweed (Algae)

  • Naturally rich source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants
  • Ten times richer in trace elements than land plants
  • Stimulates and improves blood and lymph circulation
  • Revitalizes and firms skin
  • Natural skin softener

About the Founder

Natural healing has always been a part of Jenefer Palmer‘s life. She wanted to create an organic skincare line that was safe and effective. Turning to the ocean for key OSEA ingredients, she combined nutrients such as seaweed and other marine extracts with pure essential oils.

Jenefer’s search for these ingredients led her to a breathtaking but desolate beach in Patagonia. Here, the clean coastal waters provide a pristine environment for hand-harvesting the purest natural seaweed to be found anywhere on earth.

At the Sea of Patagonia, Jenefer discovered the Gigartina species, known locally for its extremely high levels of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, and trace elements. It’s also known for what it doesn’t contain—pollutants. Seaweed absorbs the good and bad nutrients, as well as toxins, from its environment, which makes it so important that the source be clean. OSEA worked with a local partner in Argentina to ensure eco-responsible harvesting before she brought it back.

Now you can experience the amazing restorative powers of Gigartina without having to travel any further than Star Brows.

It is in this spirit of service that I bring you, my valued clients, these specials, called Rewards. I hope you take advantage of these Monthly Specials, because not only are they each specially chosen by me for you, but they earn you free spa services!

This month’s focus is on the eyes and how to care for the delicate tissue around them.

Eye Plus Lotion is a powerful blend of technologically advanced ingredients. This lightweight lotion helps prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and other signs of aging around the delicate eye area. Eye Plus has a multi-tasking formula that helps moisturize, condition, re-plump, and relieve puffiness.

Key ingredients: Anise Oil (Fennel) – which soothes, moisturizes, and conditions – and Vitamin E to  moisturize and add antioxidant protection

Glorious Gold is simply one of the best products offered by Tu’eL Skin Care.  It offers a wide range of solutions to various skin conditions. This lightweight gel is perfect for mature skin that needs to look smoother, more luminous, and more refreshed. It is specially formulated to soften the appearance of fine lines, while firming skin, and is a perfect day and nighttime treatment. Glorious Gold visibly reduces dark spots, age spots, and hyper-pigmentation due to sun damage, past acne, and scarring. It also minimizes darkness around the eyes, helping to restore a brighter radiance. The antioxidants in the formula fight free radicals to reduce the signs of aging and protect against future wrinkling. Glorious Gold can be used on all skin types and conditions.

Key ingredients: Arbutin, Bearberry, Licorice, and Blackberry (to lighten discolored skin), Wild Thyme and Lupin Extract (for firming and toning), Ginkgo Biloba Extract (to increase circulation, fight free radicals, and improve oil production), and Hyaluronic Acid (underwear ingredient!) for superior hydration

If you’re new to Star Brows, you may not know about The Product Feature or Rewards yet. To put it simply, 10% of all your product purchases, all the time, go toward free Service Enhancements, like Raindrop Therapy, Lash Tint, Chemical Peels, or Star Massage.

When a product is the Monthly Feature, however, you’ll get 20% back in Rewards! This month’s feature, Eye Plus Lotion, is $43. That means $9 toward a service Enhancement. Glorious Gold Eye and Lip Gel, which is $80, gives you $16 in Rewards!

5 Common Skin Myths – Part 1 National Skin Care Awareness Month

Caring for your skin is a lifetime pursuit, and it’s never too early to start. In honor of  National Skin Care Awareness Month (NSCAM) – I’d like to offer 50% off the Express Facial for your daughters or sons – 18 years old or younger, during the month of September.

Inspired by NSCAM here is Part #1 of a 3 part post about; skincare myths, truths, mistakes and tips to help you care the largest organ of your body – your skin!

COMMON SKIN MYTHS

MYTH #1- SKIN SHOULD FEEL TIGHT AFTER YOU WASH IT. THIS IS A SIGN THAT IT HAS BEEN EFFECTIVELY CLEANED.

TRUTH: Actually, if the skin feels tight after washing, it is a sign that the skin has been stripped of all of its water; this causes surface dead skin cell buildup. Then you have to put your moisturizer on to restore the moisture that you just removed—which makes no sense! Bar soaps (even if they say that they are moisturizing), foaming cleansers, and anything else that leaves your skin feeling tight is an absolute no-no! The most important part of your entire routine is what you wash with. It can make or break the rest of your routine. Look for low foaming cleansers that do not contain the ingredients Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, so your skin will have a comfortable and balanced clean. Check out our collection of cleansers.

MYTH #2- CHOCOLATE AND GREASY FOODS MAKES YOUR SKIN BREAKOUT.

TRUTH: There is actually no evidence indicating that these foods increase breakouts. The foods that most often are linked to breakouts are dairy products and citrus foods.

MYTH #3- THE SUN ISN’T AS STRONG IN THE WINTER, SO YOU DON’T NEED SUNSCREEN.

TRUTH: There are two types of rays: UVB rays cause your skin to get a tan or sunburn and they are not as strong in the winter as in the  summer. UVA rays are what cause premature skin aging and skin cancer and they are equally strong from summer to winter so you’re still getting UV damage even on a cloudy, rainy day in December. A UVA/UVB sunscreen needs to be worn 365 days a year, rain or shine, inside or out.

Did you know? 78% of all the sun damage over a lifetime, is from incidental exposure such as driving in your car, in your home or office near windows and simply walking to the mailbox. Yet another reason to wear sunscreen like: Tu’el Oil Free Sun Protector SPF 30.

MYTH #4- OILY SKINS DON’T NEED TO BE MOISTURIZED.

TRUTH: You don’t need extra oil, but your skin still needs water to keep the skin cells healthy and hydrated. When there is no water present, the skin cells die prematurely, resulting in dead skin cell build up, clogged pores and increased oil production. And BTW, drinking water – although great, is not an efficient way to hydrate the skin.

MYTH #5 -YOU CAN SHRINK YOUR PORE SIZE.

TRUTH: Large pores are an indication of how much oil you produced when you were in your teens—the formative years for your pore size. When your skin rapidly pumped out the oil, the walls of the pore stretched wider resulting in larger pores.  Many products will claim to actually shrink your pores, but there is no way to do this, pore size is genetic.

The best way to reduce the appearance of the large pores is by exfoliating often. By using a combination of both physical exfoliants like Tu’el Peeling Cream, and chemical exfoliants like Tu’el Glyco-A Gel on a regular basis, you will help remove surface dry cells so the opening of the pores are not as deep, making them look smaller.

Peeling Cream

Peeling Cream by Tu’el is a cream-based particulate friction mask for all skin types that refines the skin surface, removes built up flaky skin and help increase product absorption.

This is the best scrub you will ever use! It is great for the face, the body, and after waxing to help avoid bumps and ingrown hair.

Power Peel

Power Peel

Tu’eL Power Peel is not for the faint of heart. It is serious skincare designed to uncover and reveal radiant skin. Perfectly balanced with 10% in a 3.5 PH gel base Alpha Hydroxy Acid to refine skin’s surface and visibly promote cell-turnover, while Aloe Vera soothes and protects.

This alpha hydroxy acid gel will gently increase surface exfoliation, help smooth skin surface and aide in product absorption.

Used by themselves, AHAs are drying, so it is essential to use a deeply penetrating humectant product like Hydrate XS 1000 (rich in hyaluronic acid) in conjunction with this product.

Glycolic acid is also used to improve the skin’s appearance and texture. It may reduce wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and improve many other skin conditions, including actinic keratosis, hyperkeratosis, and seborrheic keratosis.

Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the skin, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the skin to be exfoliated, exposing live skin cells.

key ingredients

Glycolic Acid – exfoliant, tones, tightens, brightens, stimulates collagen
Aloe Vera – soothes, heals, moisturizes, antioxidant
Panthenol – conditions, heals, moisturizes, provitamin B5

Tu’el Clear-It

Clear-It is a quick acting, non-drying blemish control lotion with colloidal milled sulfur for acne, occasional breakouts or reactions from waxing. It dissolves and dries blemishes without damaging healthy skin like many acne products do.

This product is a “2fer” – good for those pesky waxing bumps as well as breakouts.

Acne conditions seem to adjust to treatment protocols, rendering them powerless for a brief course of time. The bacteria responsible for puss type zits (excuse the language) is called propionibacterium acnes. It spreads easily to infect surrounding tissue and adapts just as easily to acne creams, making acne hard to control.

I’ll bet if you have acne you’ve never tried a product with sulfur in it, it is very effective.

While we’re talking, let me introduce you to Lori Nestore aka “The Wax Queen” , she is the owner of Tu’el Skin And Body Care. She teaches skincare professionals all over the country about waxing, and Clear-It is her product. Her products are straight forward, well formulated, priced affordably (Clear-It 2 oz. $40) and they work!

That’s why Tu’el is fast becoming my most popular skincare line ever!

What’s in it? Deionized Water, Allantoin, Colloidal Sulfur, Isopropyl Alcohol, Lemon Oil, Carbomer, Triethanolamine.

Cleansing Oil, Herbal Toners and Star Massage

Cleansing the skin correctly is so important!

I have gone back to a cleansing system from Tu’el I had at my spa in MN 15 years ago.

It is the foundation of the launch of a new service called Star Massage utilizing the Tu’el Cleansing Oil System:

The service when combined with an eyebrow design is the Ultimate Brow Experience! It is a 20 minute face, neck and scalp treatment using aesthetic and massage techniques. The treatment clears sinuses, reduces puffiness and brightens skin-tone. It is customised to each individual skin-type and also relieves swelling, waste in the tissues and holding patterns that create tension and lines in the face.

Let me introduce you to hydrophilic cleansing oils which are water loving and water soluble.  I know – it seems counter intuitive (especially if you have oily or acne prone skin). You may be imagining a pore clogging, grease slick, that you are smearing on your face – am I right?

So, trust me, would I lead you astray? Instead I’d like you to imagine a Zen-like spa experience at home. Think fresh smelling mandarin oil, calming chamomile extract, healing extracts of arnica and purifying grapefruit extract. Imagine sitting in a comfortable, cozy spot and giving yourself a soothing facial massage.

Nothing cleans the skin like a hydrophilic oil. Let Lori Nestore, Eva’s CEO and founder of Tu’el tell you!

As skin cells die, they lose moisture, flatten and migrate to the skin’s surface. The face excretes a very sticky substance known as sebum that bonds to dead skin cells. In order for these cells to be released, this oily sebum must be dissolved.

When the hydrophilic Cleansing  Oil is massaged into the skin, it bonds with the sebum and releases the dead cells. This release of the dead layer of skin achieves exceptional pore cleansing, decongestion and a more refined skin appearance.

Adding the correct Herbal Toner, a sugar -based extract with essential oils, creates a custom cleansing system. This unique method balances the skin and eliminates the need for astringents or toners.

Let’s talk about the do’s & dont’s of good basic facial cleansing:

Don’t

  • Use soap. It strips the skin’s PH balance and leaves a film. Note: Suds = stripping.
  • Over exfoliate. The facial tissue is delicate and easily inflamed.
  • Skip morning cleanse. The skin has been repairing and working all night – debris needs to be washed away.
  • Skip nighttime cleanse. The skin should be sent to bed in a clean relaxed state  in order to optimize the healing that it does while you rest.

Do

  • Use the Cleansing Oil and Herbal Toner designed for your skin type. Did you know that oil dissolves oil?
  • Spend time massaging the skin 2-3 times per week, to exfoliate, relieve swelling and waste in the tissues, and relax holding patterns that create tension and lines on the face
  • Have a gel based or treatment strength alternative cleanser available. The skin sometimes needs an AHA for aging or an acne treatment cleanse. I always have 2 or 3 cleansers available for myself at home.
  • Always follow with moisturizer, & sunscreen for day use. Why? Cleansing is only the first part of the all important two-part system for great skin, “cleanse and protect”.

There are 4 different Oils and Herbal Toners, each for different skin types:

  1. MOISTURE PLUS

Hydrates the skin, stimulates sebaceous oil production and seals in moisture. This skin type is primarily characterized by small pores, is not product sensitive, lacks the ability to produce sebaceous oil and easily becomes dehydrated. It may have underlying congestion and may also be flaky.

  2. BALANCING ACT

Balances sebaceous oil production, hydrates and calms. This skin type shows two different textures covering 1/3 to 1/2 of the face, and appears to have medium to large pores. It may be congested and dehydrated due to improper home care. It needs balancing of oil production without dehydration.

  3. Detox

The Purifying Line acts as a germicide to target impurities while keeping skin feeling and looking great. Impure skin can be dry,                 combination or oily, and any age with visible and constant breakouts.

     4. CALM DOWN

This line calms while gently improving, maintaining and enhancing the skin. This skin has some of the same properties as dry                     skin – small pores, possibly congested, easily dehydrated and irritated – and also reacts to products.

    5. RESCUE ME

Rescue Me stimulates cell production, hydrates, nourishes and firms. Mature skin is dry, combination, oily or dry-reactive that               has aged. Tanned skin at any age is considered mature.
