Brow B.F.F. Kit January Product Feature 2012

This darling Makeup Bag is yours FREE in January when you purchase any three Billion Dollar Brows Products! And, when you can double your Rewards points, you’re really getting a great deal.

Brow Boost is my biggest seller, I use it, and it really works to grow stubborn brows. It also helps you keep the brows you have! $20

Brow Duo Highlighter is awesome to carry in your purse (in this little bag!). I use it for touch-ups with the concealer end throughout the day. Using the highlighter end can transform your makeup quickly from day to evening: Apply to the inner corners of your eyes, the “cupid’s bow” of your lip, the high-point of your brow arch, or make your eyes  look bigger and clearer by putting highlighter on the tear-line. This big, fat,  2 in 1 pencil contains jojoba seed oil so it’s good for your skin too. $18

The Brow Gel is a must-have for setting perfect brows as well as holding the color you’ve applied, and the chamomile flower extract conditions. $15

Since Trucco went out of business, taking with it my beloved Hi-Brow Trio (which, by the way, if you bought it, you’ll be glad you did because now it’s on ebay for $133!) I’ve had to find eyebrow colors I like as well to replace it. And I’d say BDB Brow Powder in Blond, Taupe, Light Brown and Raven (new), do a great job. Using two or three of these versatile colors make a great shadow collection as well: Use Blond as your all-over base, Light Brown to begin to contour (I’ll teach you to do this next time your in), and finish with Taupe, or for more drama – Raven. $16

The Universal Brow Pencil is pretty versatile because it matches most eyebrow colors. Pencils are great for those with sparse brows. I like to use pencil first to define and make my Powder “stick”. $15

And finally the Brow Brush, a two-in-one tool with an angle brush for applying brow powder on one end and a spoolie on the other for softening the effect. You don’t know how much flaking I see on the skin under the average brow. Use the spoolie to soften and provide a bit of exfoliation after pencil, powder, and even gel. $15

Star Brows of the Week – Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara showed up at the Emmy Awards 2011 looking amazing. This was my favorite look over-all.  (Girl’s got some curves.) Sometimes Sofia gets a little boobalicious, but this was tastefully elegant.

The Lorraine Schwartz earrings she wore had more than 100 carats of emeralds and 60 carats of diamonds, worth more than $900,000. Hmmm, green earings? Although I do have to give her credit for tying them in with the same designer’s  emerald pinky ring, and the Ofira golden cuff…love.

But, I digress. Let’s talk about her amazing eyebrows. Notice how they really swoop in at the bridge of the nose? Yes, one is lower, but remember “sisters, not twins”? They’re pencil/powdered in and very soft and feathery-feeling and a shade or two lighter than her root color.

The understated brow lets her eyes take center stage (not always true), but when putting together a glamorous look you need to play with drama selectively. The earrings were so bold, they took center stage (face-wise) – behind those gorgeous brown eyes, of course.

From now through the holidays, we’re playing with Youngblood Mineral eye-makeup at Star Brows. 😉 Try a Makeup Lesson to learn “the smokey eye” or a new look with the fresh, new palettes just in.

Star Brow of the Week

I adore fashion designer Christian Cota’s collection, but what the heck is up with his eyebrows? Yes, it’s true the eyebrows are not twins; they are sisters, as I like to say – or in Christian’s case, brothers!

He has beautiful eyes and lips, and even though I don’t see men except by referral, I would see him – as an act of mercy, lol.

Not that countless makeup artists haven’t (probably) told him he needed help. He may have said what a recent client of mine said: “My brows are me.” No! Your brows aren’t you. They can change, just like your hair, clothing, and makeup, and change they must. 😀

You need these!

These little scissors have been around forever, different versions date back to the 1800’s. The Tweezerman Stork  Scissors  are sharp, pointy and oh so cute and tiny. They can be found everywhere – Target, Walmart and online.

My favorite use is for brow trimming;

  • Don’t tweeze out  grey hairs,  instead cut them short and color the whole brow.
  • Comb (with mascara wand) the brows up and then down to decide where you can trim. Hold the hairs out straight and cut with the curve of the brow.
  • You may need to leave longer hairs (think comb over!) to cover scars or bald patches.
  • If your brow is very dense, do sporadic diagonal cuts in the brow body (not sure you want to try this at home ;-), but it looks great. Many times the brow “head” is thicker than the “tail”, cross cutting helps create balance.

A professional is recommended, at least periodically for shaping. And if your in my area, I’d love to see you personally!

Hint – If your scissors ever stick, put a drop of oil in the joint and work back and forth to loosen.

Beauty Multi-tasker

So many uses for these little reusable spoolies. You can pick them up at Sallys, drug stores, department stores or get them free at the nearest makeup counter!

  • Unclump mascara
  • Separate lashes with the tip
  • Use when you have an eye infection so you don’t contaminate the mascara tube
  • Position your brows so you can trim them
  • Put gel on you brows to keep them in place
  • Brush the brow to eliminate dead skin flakes under the brow hair
  • Clean your diamond ring (use toothpaste too)

Other uses you’ve tried?

Star Brows by Linda Ruberto Press Release

Entrepreneurialism runs in the family

Paso vintner’s daughter moves to area and launches local beauty business.

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif.  – November 12, 2007.   Linda Ruberto, daughter of Robert Hall, owner of the well-known Paso Robles winery of the same name, has decided to follow in her father’s footsteps by opening a business of her own in Arroyo Grande.  And though her business and her dad’s are very different, both cater to the same class of clientele:  people who enjoy the finer things in life.

Star Brows by Linda Ruberto will offer eyebrow design, body waxing, massage, and skincare and will officially open its doors Nov 12th.  The new business will be located at 1148 E. Grand Ave. in Arroyo Grande.

Ruberto, a licensed esthetician and certified massage therapist, is a recent transplant from St. Paul, Minnesota.  Back home, she ran a day spa and salon, which she owned for 13 years before selling and moving to the Central Coast.

Ruberto is pleased to report that she’s been welcomed to the area with open arms—an area she is fast growing to love.  Says Ruberto, “I feel like a local already. Everywhere I go someone knows me or my family.” She describes Arroyo Grande, where she’s decided to both live and set up shop as “the perfect blend of small town friendly with a big city feel.”

According to Ruberto, she and her husband Paul have been planning this move for 6 years.  “We’ve visited the area many times over the years, for our daughter Valery’s graduation from Cal Poly and her wedding to Jonathan Hoekman, for our second daughter Angela’s move to the area to attend Cuesta College, and for visits to my dad in Paso Robles.”

Ruberto finds it “fun to be reunited with family, have a new business, and wear flip flops every day.”  She adds, “I thank this community for all the love and support I have received.”

Regarding her chosen profession, Ruberto candidly admits, “I’m obsessed with eyebrow design and am known for stopping people on the street (men too) to offer a consultation.”  About her new enterprise, she adds, “I also do body waxing, massage and shiatsu as well as skincare and chemical peels.”

Ruberto looks forward to helping her clients fulfill the Star Brows motto:  “Look for the beauty in others and recognize it in yourself.”
